Dream Lake is one of Rocky Mountain National Park’s most visited alpine lakes. It can be reached after a mile hike (about 400 ft of elevation gain) from the Bear Lake trailhead. It can be a great place for sunrise when the conditions are appropriate. (The north shore of Bear Lake is the best place in the immediate are for sunset.)
There is still a significant amount of snow in mid May this year due to the increased snowfall this winter. Traction or snowshoes are definitely recommended for now.
If you’re here at sunrise, it’s one place and time I’d recommend using a raw image format on your camera, or at least a gray card. For some reason, I’ve both had and witnessed others having troubles with white balance in this valley at sunrise. The mountains can turn a bright pink, which is amazing – but it throws off your camera and you might not get that same awesome pink in your photographs.
