Lake Haiyaha is located near Bear Lake, the most popular area for hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park. I usually avoid this area during the summer because it’s so busy; instead, I go there in winter for some of the best snowshoeing that’s available in Colorado. On this particular day we started at the Bear Lake trailhead (you can also start at the Glacier Gorge trailhead). When we finally made it up to Lake Haiyaha (after passing Bear Lake, Nymph Lake and climbing around the steep ridge next to Dream Lake) the winds were strong and cold enough to make our visit extremely short.
