Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park is one of the more interesting landscapes I have experienced. Over two tons of calcium carbonate is carried by water into the Mammoth area every day. The result is a giant hill of travertine that has formed over thousands of years. Algae living in the warm pools have colored the hillside red, orange, and green in various areas.
