Shanghai is the largest city in the world, but it’s extremely peaceful on the waterfront in the Bund during sunrise. People are flying kites and doing their interesting walking and clapping exercises (walking forward and clapping, walking backward and clapping, standing still and clapping, etc.) while the city slowly wakes up. Because all of China has one timezone and Shanghai is on the eastern side of China, the sun raises fairly early. I was up at 5 and it was already light. This was my first morning in China and a great way to start to get used to the time difference.
