This is without question the most beautiful cathedral I’ve ever seen. What was most impressive to me was the contrast between the exterior, which is completely elaborate in Gothic splendor (including countless spires and flying buttresses), and the relative simplicity of the interior. There are still interesting statues, stained glass, etc., but the main alley is completely open and made me feel like a puny, finite being. This is totally different than some other Gothic cathedrals, which seem to pack so much stuff into the cathedral that you lose a sense of scale (a great example of this is Stephansdom in Vienna).
